Summary

As the sole design intern on the team, I partnered closely with co-founder Geoffrey Gu to align on design sprints. In this startup environment, my responsibilities varied from website refreshes, 0 → 1 interface designs, and redefining entire design systems.

Takeaways

Great design is invisible.

Our target users are patients who have greater concerns than tech fluency. Making a digital experience more accessible took on a different meaning: the best designs aren’t the fanciest or most colorful, but the ones that help a user understand the most.

Design systems make space for the unknown.

Building reusable components, compiling assets, and constantly documenting my process/learnings helped me match the velocity of the company. After each sprint, I became more efficient in my workflow by learning from past designs and business decisions.

Ask questions, and more questions.

Tight design sprints involves understanding a problem space quickly. By asking clarifying questions and being open in my design process, I’m able to rescope my designs and align them to company needs.
